Research Project

Research and Development Project of a new biopolymer film application in agrotextiles.

In 2014 and 2015, Biopolímeros Maya carried out the project "RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW BIOPOLYMER FILM OF APPLICATION IN AGROTEXTILES", with the purpose of controlled biodegradability and composting.

Biopolímeros Maya has researched and developed a new biopolymer film for application in Agrotextiles for mulch ("mulch film") of different crops, from different grades of Polyethylene as well as certain pro-oxidant additives; with purpose of improving and accelerating its biodegradation process, reducing its useful life to 3-4 months, enough period for it to begin to degrade after its end of use and proceed to its withdrawal and subsequent composting.

As a final result, it is important to obtain films with good properties that facilitate recycling and composting after their useful life, offering the company a highly competitive product.

This project has been funded by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
